Bed Graduations!
George
and Emile have both graduated to new beds! We have given Emilie
George's baby/toddler bed, and to George we gave him a full twin bed! We
don't have any fancy bed frames, they are sitting right on the floor,
but who wants to fall off three feet anyway when it could just be a half
foot drop, right? Emilie seems so much more comfy in her new bed, not
having to sleep on the floor and also waking up at night to come into
our bed (and waking up all the time from us moving, thus us all sleeping
pretty restlessly). I think this setup will work pretty well. :) George
loved his new bed at first, getting to stretch out with more space, but
seeing Emilie in his old bed gave him a streak of jealousy. If we need,
we'll cram George in his small bed again and give Emilie the bigger
one. I think that would pain him emotionally, because he wouldn't want
her to have either and keep jumping back in forth saying, "no, that's
mine!" and crying confused of what to do... so we'll probably just
endure his discontentedness and make the decision that is best for
him. Trying to teach a toddler from natural consequences can be like
fishing in the desert if not done right, I've learned. George especially
seems to resist learning from negative experiences or in other words,
when I try to prove to him that he's wrong and irrational, he doesn't
take a bite. Ah, the frustrations. Seeking revenge on your three year
old son to get him to understand that you are right and he is wrong is
never a good endeavor. It's better to just be a responsible parent,
realize you are the adult and are the boss and know best, and not fall
into permissive parenting.
