"Conference Eve" & Conference Weekend

Reading up, we learned that one family made conference as big a holiday as Christmas! This shocked me, but you know what, that's a pretty cool idea. They both are majorly centered (ok, should be completely centered) on Christ. Anyway, though we just learned about it yesterday (Friday), we still had a little time to put a trial run on having "Conference Eve". What we did?.. Well, we went to the local high school parade actually, before we even read about celebrating Conference Eve! And you know what? That was AWESOME! Each year in high school had their own float, and there were many convertible cars with the Princess and Prince of each year. Being a YW teacher, my most awesome student (granted, she makes up our whole YW program, but it's still true :)) was selected as Princess of her Freshmen class. So proud of her! :) The high schoolers were so creative with their floats! Our personal favorites floats were the Indiana Jones and the Alice in Wonderland. All of the Princesses and Princes were so regale and friendly, and George had the time of his life waving from Scott's shoulders. George was really in awe at all the colors, music, and even the fire fighter engines that lead and ended the parade. After the parade, we headed down the hill for a quick errand, and that's when I read about conference eve! On the way back, we decided to stop at our McDonalds on the way and make it a celebration! We've never gone inside before, but this one was awesome, with a super playground and everything! We each had a dollar fifty burger and the giant chicken nugget packs. I also treated myself to an Oreo flurry with hot fudge! George immediately went for the play ground and we must have spend over an hour there. He had so much fun with the other kids and did so well with just melting into the group and playing right along. What really gets me is that he never asked (well, he is three now, to be expected), he just sort of saw what the other kids were doing, hopped in and did the same. You know, as adults, I think it might be better if our culture was like that in America. As a child though, I remembered offending bullies by just expecting they would be nice to be as I was to them. A shame it can't be like that. I'll just have to teach George to "bounce back" if he encounters a rude child. Being resilient is crucial these days, and having a stable family, and with me reading the Children are from Heaven book by John Gray, I think I can be able to help George be that resilient boy he needs to be, and Emilie stay and be the resilient happy girl she is. I love you, George and Emilie :)

George just woke up, Conference Saturday begins! Pintrist, thank you for idea activities for George. Let's make this Christmas awesome! ;) We're having waffles for Breakfast with cool whip!
